Shining Star - Lori Magill

When you find something you love, you will do just about anything to pursue it. It’s that kind of passion we love to see in our educators, and it’s in abundance within our latest shining star, Lori Magill, Centre Manager for Aussie Kindies Early Learning Werribee

Lori realised her passion for Early Childhood Education once she had her son.

“When I would pick up and drop off my son to care I would sometimes take days off to volunteer as a parent in my sons’ kinder class,” she says.

Lori started working in childcare as a casual room assistant in 2010 at Aussie Kindies Early Learning Werribee after being a student there. She swiftly climbed through the ranks as a Room Leader, Educational Leader, Workplace Health and Safety Officer, Assistant Centre Manager, and now, Centre Manager.

“I love the creative freedom that I have with the centre and children. We get to make our own learning programs based on the children’s interests. This means we could do anything from exploring numbers with Dinosaurs to looking at the Alphabet in the stars,” says Lori when asked about what she loves most about her current role.

Aussie Kindies Early Learning Werribee currently has around 40 children attending that are gaining the full benefits of the Lifelong Learning Approach. Lori makes sure to use the programs to build children’s independence and confidence through play.

“I love that my centre has a great sense of family. We all work together with our families. It has a relaxed and natural feel about it and we always have a project on the go,” says Lori.

While she is currently being recognised for her hard work as Centre Manager she says there is always room for improvement.

“I would like to look at becoming the best Centre Manager I can and get the balance of professional and approachable leadership just right. I’d like to be able to feel that I am able to inspire and lead a group of motivated educators to an Exceeding level.”

We love your hard work and dedication to Lifelong Learning Lori, and thank you for bringing our values of ‘being completely connected,’ ‘creating shining stars,’ and ‘going above and beyond’ to life.

Childcare ratings - what do they mean?

We often talk about centres ‘Meeting’ or ‘Exceeding’ when talking about National Quality Standards, but what does that actually mean?
